Jesus Fulfills Old Testament Prophecies

You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me [40] yet you refuse to come to me to have life.

John 5: 39, 40 also John 5: 46, 47

And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

Luke 24: 27

New Testament

Old Testament

Luke 4: 17 - 21 - The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it he found the place where it is written: [18] "The spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anoited me to preached good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, [19] to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." [20] Then he rolled up the scroll , gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were on him [21] and he began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.

Isaiah 61: 1 - 2 - Note:   Jesus stopped reading in the middle of a verse.
Leaving out . . "and the day of vengeance of our God. to comfort all who mourn."
Because this part of the verse was not fulfilled at that time, it would be fulfilled at this second advent.

Matthew 27: 3 - 8 - When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty solver coins to the chief proests and the elders.  [4]  "I have sinned, for I have betrayed innocent blood." "What is this to us?" they replied. "That is your responsibility."  [5]  So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. He went away and hanged himself.  [6]  The priest picked up the coins and said, "It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money."  [7]  So they decided to use the money to buy the potter's field as a burial place for foreigners. [8] That is why it has been called Field of Blood to this day. [9] Then what was spoken by Jeremiah, the prophet, was fulfilled.

Zechariah 11:  12, 13 - I told them, "If you think it best give me my pay; but if not keep it."  So they paid me thirty pieces of silver.  [13] And the Lord said "Throw it to the potter" - the handsome price at which they priced me! So I  took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the Lord to the potter.

Isaiah 53: 3, 5, 7  -  He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering, [7] He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

John 19: 23-24  - The soldiers, therefore crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarmet remaining. This garment was seemless. [24]  "Let's not tear it" they said to one another. "Let us decide by lot who will get it.

The Bible even predicted the time that the Messiah would appear

Daniel 9: 25 - Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks . . .

Jacob's patriarchal blessing fortells the Messiah - Genesis 49: 10
"The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lowgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come"  Note:  It says the tribe of Judah would be the ruling tribe at the time Jesus comes.

Acts 10: 42, 43    He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. [43]  All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.

God specifically gave the prophecies detailing aspects of Christ's life in advance to reveal who Jesus really is. They are not meant simply to satisfy some intellectual curiosity. The prophet Isaiah even outlined parts of Jesus' ministry in advance.  Isaiah wrote:

"The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor and . . . to comfort all who mourn."  Isaiah 61: 1, 2

It is important to note that many of the prophecies about Jesus were fulfilled in the last 24 hours of his life.

Scriptures  Must  Be  Fulfilled

Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?  [54]   But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?
Matthew 26: 53 - 54

Now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did your leaders.  [18]  But this is how God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, saying that His Christ (Missiah) would suffer.
Acts  3: 17, 18
